Project: Perspiration

Worklog: Here

There's something to be said for cases like the SIlvertsone TJ-07 and Lian Li V2xxx series. Aside from exquisite build quality, they are simply a dream to work with, especially if you're water-cooling. However, they're pretty darn expensive so it's small wonder people are building their own cases, especially in these cash strapped times.

Of course we're all in favour of this attitude at bit-tech and pistol_pete is creating one of our favourite mods - combining two cases to give him self the required space to house a high-end PC with water-cooling hardware thrown in too. Project: Perspiration is aparently an apt title firstly because, according to pistol_pete, all the good names have been used up, but also because the mod involved plenty of perspex and inspiration hence perspexinspiration!

Using Rhino 3D pistol_pete created some initial renders of his vision which has a touch of VW Golf GTI styling thrown in too, apparently. There's space for triple and double 120mm radiators as well so cooling shouldn't be too much of an issue. We can also see an EK Multioption reservoir which is fed by a fillport on top of the case and a Laing D5 pump doing the hard work. Unfortunately we'll have to wait a while for the cooling to come in to being as he needs to save for the kit first.

This Lian Li PC-7 drew the short straw - or should that be hack saw? With the case now in two bits, the tophalf will be attached to the other case to provide room for the PSU and hard drives.

Above we can see the two sections together. It's not quite a Lian Li V2000 but is much more compact and a lot cheaper too! The extra room this kind of mod provides is clear - the hole top section is now free for a nice shiny radiator.

pistol_pete has also installed a significant number of LED strips in the side panel which look awesome. All you need now is a mirror and you'll be able to put your make-up on too! The case is really coming together now and we're really impressive with the join of the two sections of case which is extremely neat.

There's loads more in pistol_pete's log so make sure you take a look and if Project: Perspiration is your favourite, vote for it in our forum.
